Welcome news for the Coromandel Peninsula business community for the coming summer holiday season, the Department of Conservation has confirmed that this summer all off its campgrounds will be operating to full capacity.
Last year significant reduced camping numbers were imposed due to what DOC then described as weather related impacts.
But, is it now back to normal business for the summer peak with some 1600 campers a day being able to be accommodated at top end camp grounds such as Port Jackson, Waikawau Bay, Stony Bay, Fantail Bay and Fletchers Bay.
DOC Operations Manager, Nik Kelly, advised CFM, that the decision came with the commitment of progress to roading repair work and getting severely damaged access roads to communities and campsites reinstated.
âDOC has reset its capacity to the pre-cyclone numbers we once had.â
Nick said DOC was looking forward to a summer with full campgrounds and safe road access for both staff and visitors.
DOC still advises that these are remote locations and to be prepared. Please check the DOC website for any updates.
