One of the regions most significant tourist attractions, the Hauraki Rail Trail, today received a significant boost with restoration and development funding to the tune of $3.7 million.

A very happy rail trail trust CEO, Diane Drummond, told CFM that the money would be used to reinstate damage caused by storms earlier in the year.

Development work will also be carried out including finishing the section between Kaiaua and Ray’s Rest.

It is the biggest grant that has been made to the Hauraki Rail Trail Trust for restoration work.

The contribution has been made by Government and the three district councils being Thames Coromandel, Hauraki and Matamata-Piako.
