Man Arrested After Coroglen Stand-off

A 37-year-old Coroglen man will appear in the Hamilton District Court today on charges relating to an incident which isolated the town last night.

He has been charged with presenting a firearm and restricted weapon. Police were called to the town late yesterday afternoon after reports of a man being sighted with a firearm at a property.

Local police, the armed offenders squad and the Police Eagle helicopter responded. State Highway 25 through Coroglen was closed.

Police attempted to engage with the man, however he did not respond to calls to exit the address. A cordon was established, and Police continued to appeal to the man, and then deployed tactical options including a drone and gas. The man was taken into custody about 3am. Two air rifles were recovered from the address.
