He has been in the job for 10 months – Thames Coromandel Mayor, Len Salt, chaired the August Council meeting yesterday and looked to introduce a committee which he believes will help him deliver his election promises.

His council has deferred introducing his proposed Sustainability and Community Resilience Committee until its next meeting.

Following the meeting CFM interviewed the Mayor – he discussed the relationship between council and community boards – and the steps to improve the connection, the introduction of the new solid waste contract and the collection impacts on the likes of Pauanui.

Construction delays to the new Whitianga Refuse Transfer Station, he says this is providing council with a rethink of project contracting – but no timeframe yet on the stations opening.

Cathedral Cove’s closure – he understands there is to be an announcement next week while he also provided an insight into the impact of increasing crime in Thames.
