Hot Water Beach, Hahei and Whitianga business owners are angered in being excluded from a meeting this Friday, called to discuss critical issues relating to Cathedral Cove by the Department of Conservation.

Leading tourism operators such as Hot Water Beach Top 10, Hotties Eatery, Cathedral Cove Park and Ride and Cathedral Cove Tours are a few not on the invite list. Instead, the Hahei Business Association is represented, CFM being aware of two water based operators, local council staff and local iwi Ngati Hei are on the attendance list.

Top 10s, Sheree Webster, said Hot Water Beach was a key stakeholder but there had been no communication. Like Mark Walynetz of Hotties, she questioned the motive behind the exclusion and the meeting itself.

DOC’s Coromandel Operations Manager, Nick Kelly, said he was looking forward to a positive, pragmatic and professional discussion.  He said there will be an opportunity for the wider community to share their views on Cathedral Cove, and DOC will be sharing details of that when it’s appropriate.

DOC today advised CFM it would not be making any further comment on the matter.
