Properties Now the Focus for Civil Defence

Written by on February 1, 2023

Civil defence has now shifted its approach from storm responses on roading, to potential property damage.

This came as three properties were today damaged by slips on the Thames Coast at Thornton’s Bay. One of the properties is understood to have mud and debris entering the building.

No-one was injured and the residents are staying with families or friends.

Civil defence controller, Garry Towler, today said people must check their properties for any signs of land movement caused by the saturated ground.

With more than 1.5 metres of rain having fallen so far this year alone, the risk of land movement is high.

Garry said if people noticed doors sticking or cracks appearing in either buildings or land, then they need to notify their local authority.

An interview with Garry can be heard by clicking the link below.
