Potential changes to local councils announced by the government this week, has drawn a sharp response from Waikato Regional Council chairman, Tairua’s Warren Maher, referring to a carrot and stick approach.
Warren was critical of the Government’s actions claiming he could see no benefit to ratepayers, also indicating that he had been contacting local Mayors to gauge opinions and seeking further discussions at the Waikato Mayoral Forum.
He described the situation facing all councils as providing a lot more questions than answers.
