Three houses were involved in a large fire at Cooks Beach today.

Just before 1pm today a fire was reported at a beach front property in Cooks Beach. It quickly escalated when the severity and intensity of the fire threatened neighbouring properties. Brigades from Cooks Beach, HaHei, Hot Water Beach, Tairua, Pauanui and Whitianga were called in to fight the blaze at the property.

According to Fire and Emergency, one home was totally destroyed and a second has received extensive damage. A third property had minor damage to gutters and other superficial areas of the house.

The fire could clearly be seen from properties several kilometres away in Whitianga and Wharekaho. A number of boats stopped to allow those onboard to observe the fire and a large crowd gathered on the beach to watch the fire crew battle the intense fire. No cause has been identified but Fire and Emergency have investigators travelling to site to determine the cause of the fire. CFM has been told by locals that a Hybrid car was being charged at the property where the fire started but this has not been confirmed as the source of the fire.

There have been no reported injuries to occupants or fire crew.

Our EYE on the SKY captured the fire and several hundred people watched our live feed on our Facebook page.

One house has been completely destroyed and CFM has been told it was a two storey property as was the property with partial damage.

At 3:30pm today smoke could still be seen coming from the remanets of the fire and 6 crews were remain at the scene damping down hot spots.
