Whitianga’s Summer Concert has been cancelled for the second time.

Organisers, Greenstone Entertainment, has pulled the plug on their 2024 concert, laying the blame solely at the state of the region’s roading network.

This follows the abandonment of this year’s concert due to weather.

Greenstone’s Dean Calvert confirmed the decision saying his company could not afford or risk another loss.

He said they had looked at the likes of Thames to stage the event, but limited infrastructure prevented such a venue. Dean did say Greenstone would return to Whitianga.

The financial loss to the region is estimated at $15 million with Mercury Bay Business Association’s Lynda Grant, describing the decision as devastating.

She was pleased that Greenstone aimed to continue its association with Whitianga beyond next year.

The 2024 Summer Concert has been rescheduled to Claudelands, Hamilton.

An interview with Dean Calvert can be heard by opening the link below.
