Youth Festival Gets Go Ahead

The application to hold a Whangamata youth music festival on December 30 and 31 has been granted – and organisers Ollie Events Limited have been given a five year consent to stage the concert.

In approving the application Independent Commissioner, Dr P H Mitchell, has applied a 6000 person limit on the festival while along with 37 conditions – including those attending must be 16 year or over and the event is alcohol free.

The festival will be staged on the Aickin Road Sports Reserve.

The commissioner said the festival will provide a much-needed opportunity for the considerable number of young people that come to Whangamata each Christmas / New Year period to assemble in a safe and controlled location.

There were 62 submissions 34 of those did not support the festival.
