Opening Up Dying Matters
Written by John Freer on September 8, 2026
With New Zealand’s longest serving funeral home being located in Thames, it seemed appropriate to talk with Twentyman’s Adrian Catran about New Zealand’s dying matters week.
The initiative, launched last year, is aimed at raising awareness and having safe conversions regarding dying and end of life.
Adrian told us that in his 36 years of being in the funeral business, there were three significant changes which stood out for him, the first being the shift from people opting for burial against cremation, the previous ratio being 60/40 in favour of burial, now for Twentymans, cremations have jumped to 83 percent.
He also mentioned the trend toward assisted dying.
