Details
The World Naked Bike Ride is a once-a-year lighthearted protest or demonstration that is held in more than 80 towns and cities around the world.
This clothing-optional bike ride has three main purposes . . .
* Highlight the vulnerability of cyclists to motorists who appear blind to our presence.
* Promote cycling as an alternative to a car culture.
* Encourage a positive body image for all, improving mental health.
It’s also fun and free!
Again, the motto is “Ride as Bare as you Dare!”
New Zealand has a shameful record when it comes to cycling deaths and injuries on our roads. We say to the car drivers, “If we ride naked, I bet you can you see us now!”
The planet that we live on is just as vulnerable as our naked riders due to a society that over promotes car use. The average family car emits about 250 grams of CO2 per Kilometer. That’s 1 Kg of CO2 every 4 Km. Ditch your car, grab a bike, and do your health and the environment a big favour!
We meet at the Waihi Beach Hotel at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday 21st March to prepare banners, body paint slogans and safety briefing before the 10 Km ride. All information is on the website, www.wnbr.nz
