Coromandel Peninsula’s northern most walking track which attracts over 7000 people a year, will reopen next month.
The 10 kilometre Coastal Walkway between Fletcher and Stony Bays was wiped out two years ago by a major slip while storms also caused track subsidence in a number of places.
The Department of Conservation has started reinstating the track.
CFM has spoken with DOCs Coromandel Peninsula supervisor, Matt Flynn, who told us while a small digger had been used on some aspects of the damaged and closed track, a significant amount of the work would involve old-fashioned shovel and grubbers, DOC rangers will be undertaking this.
If the weather plays its part Matt said the track should be open for April.
