Tourism Website Compromised – A Major Blow

The primary asset promoting tourism to the region has been lost and may not be restored.

For the regional tourism organisation, Destination Hauraki Coromandel, a major setback this week in that its website domain, the coromandel dot com, has been compromised and the website cloned.

A temporary website domain, hauraki coromandel dot com has been initiated – it displaying a warning that the primary site is being used by an unauthorised party.

In the meantime, DHC confirmed it attempting to reduce traffic to the original website.

Police and other cyber security organisations have been informed, appropriate investigations are underway.

Destination Hauraki Coromandel GM Hadley Dryden confirmed today that the organisation is working through legal channels at this point in time.

He said it was important to note that Destination Hauraki Coromandel are not at fault for the loss of the domain, in the meantime they are continuing to encourage businesses to remove links from the coromandel dot com link.
