Ayana Piper-Healion
Ayana was born and raised in Whitianga, attending Mercury Bay Area School, before moving to Auckland for university.
She moved back after completing her degree in 2019 to work at CFM. When Covid quickly brought her back from LA, she broadcast live through the first lockdown from home, using the CFM Caravan.
Ayana later moved back to Auckland to work at RNZ National. Since then, her work and travels have taken her to Antarctica, Svalbard, working on a conservation ship in Mexico, and backpacking for a couple of years.
She has since returned home, now living on her family property across an estuary with no road access — so whenever you hear Ayana on air each Sunday, she’s been up early in the kayak.
Ayana continues to work for RNZ, now remotely from her hometown and the community she cares about. Catch her each Sunday morning on Coromandel’s CFM.
