WHITIANGA OCEANS FESTIVAL – ANOTHER COVID CASUALTY

Whitianga Oceans Festival deferred to 2022

The Festival is another casualty of the current conditions with Covid-19. The following release has just arrived from the Festival organisers.

“It is with huge disappointment that we, Whitianga Oceans Festival Committee, have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Whitianga Oceans Festival, scheduled for Saturday 18th September.

The impact of Covid-19 and the unknown period in which the nation (or parts of the nation) need to remain locked down means we cannot plan ahead with any certainty and are unlikely to be at an alert level that enables us to hold an event of this size.

This event has such a positive impact on the local Whitianga community so this  decision has not been made lightly. A huge amount of effort has gone into the revamped festival that has evolved from the Whitianga Scallop Festival and we thank all of those individuals and groups who have worked towards and were to be part of this day. We were very excited to be bringing you all another great event and enjoy as much sustainably caught seafood as we could work in. We remain keen to use this work to bring you a festival in the future instead.

We will be in touch with all ticket holders and stallholders over the coming week.

We are committed to the festival ongoing and look forward to hosting everyone in September 2022 when hopefully our world is a more stable environment”.
