Prime Minister Interviewed After Peninsula Visit

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins was on the Coromandel Peninsula today inspecting storm damage along the Thames Coast.
After a flying visit which included the opportunity to meet with Thames Coromandel Mayor and Civil Defence staff, the Prime Minister did not provide any concrete solutions to the challenges being experienced by the region.
There were lots of words and references to work being undertaken by the likes of Waka Kotahi, but he said at this point there were no quick or immediate answers available.
“We acknowledge that people are going to want answers and solutions as quick as possible,” he said.
The Prime Minister was due to attend a media briefing in Thames at the end of the visit, which CFM was ready and prepared to live stream. Instead, the plans were changed, and the briefing occurred on Thames Coast – leaving both local news outlets, CFM and The Valley Profile, waiting at the Thames Coromandel council chambers.
The Prime Minister said he believed his Government was aware of the position being faced by Coromandel Peninsula communities.
