With flat and fast riverside trails, glorious climbs up Mt Karangahake and pristine native bush, few locations can compete with the Karangahake Gorge for drama, intrigue, and natural beauty.

Join in for one of the most popular running and walking events. Immerse yourself in the area’s rich heritage as you run through old railway tunnels and past fascinating relics from the gold mining age. This is undoubtedly some of the best off road running in the country!

The XTERRA Trail Challenge is the culmination of the popular Auckland XTERRA Trail Run / Walk series, a series of 6 events that have been held May – Sep this year in some of the best off-road locations in and around the greater Auckland region. The XTERRA Trail Challenge Waihi is open to off-road enthusiasts of all ages and abilities; regardless if you’re tall, short, young, wise, a rabbit or a tortoise there is a distance option to satisfy your trail appetite.

There’s always some challenging but achievable terrain to tame while you’re out there, and there will ALWAYS be a cold SPEIGHT’s for you when you get to the finish!

Compulsory event briefings will be held 10 minutes before the start of each event – please be at these!
