Civil Defence Latest – Recovery Time

Written by on March 1, 2023

A respite in the weather has been welcomed by the Thames Coromandel civil defence team who yesterday had the opportunity to show their Minister Kieran McAnulty some of what is described as the raw Coromandel Peninsula.

Civil Defence controller Garry Towler said having the Minister see the likes of the Tapu Coroglen Road and the damage, which has closed the link, was a key part of the regions immediate, medium and long term civil defence programme.

Getting into recovery was now important and as a result work was being undertaken with central government.

In the attached interview Garry talks about the pressure on our communities, and how people living on the Coromandel Peninsula ensured they remained informed throughout the various storms.

He said the primary objective of civil defence is to keep people safe and this has been achieved. Looking ahead, Garry said how communities are going to look after themselves going forward was crucial.
