Expect some heavy showers for new years eve – but then several fine days follow

MetService has issued a weather outlook for the next several days and New Year’s Eve is looking wet, very wet in places.
MetService’s latest New Year’s Eve forecast suggests the weather may see us ushering in 2024 indoors this year.
From mid-afternoon tomorrow, Sunday 31 December, the muggy weather will give way to showers, building during the evening to persistent and at times heavy thundery falls before easing in the early hours of New Year’s Day, Monday 1 January.
The good news is that this rain band will move through quickly and will be followed by five or six days of settled weather.
Whatever you do please do it safely and give our emergency services teams a quite night to bring in the new year.
