LEVEL 3 LOCKDOWN FOR WESTERN WAIKATO TOWNS SOUTH TO RAGLAN PLUS HAMILTON CITY
Written by John Grant on October 3, 2021
The Prime Minister has today announced that as at 11:59pm this evening the following areas will be joining Auckland in Level 3 lockdown. Te Kauwhata, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Raglan and Hamilton City. Unlike Auckland the boundaries will be subject to some police stops but due to the number of roads it will not be possible to close these as they have in Auckland. The Prime Minister has appealed to people to do the right thing and not to travel and cross the border.
These changes to Level 3 are the result of two new positive Covid cases in the Waikato today. One of these is a person from Hamilton East who is now in Waikato Hospital with Covid related issues. This person has connections with the case in Raglan, a person who has now been moved to a managed quarantine site in Auckland after testing positive.
People in these area are asked to go and be tested and especially if they have any Covid symptoms.
The Raglan Hotel has been closed as a potential location of interest and people are queuing at the local supermarket for supplies. The local pop up testing site in Raglan also has a long line of locals waiting to have tests done. One resident we spoke to said it was surreal. With lots of traffic coming into the town but businesses closing and everyone getting supplies.
The Waikato level 3 conditions will apply for an initial period of 5 days.

3.25pm Why is it taking so long for the boundaries to come up on the covid19.govt.nz website?

Utter confusion to boundaries in Level 3 tonight. Are Raglan Ngaruawahia Huntly Te Kauwhata just the town boundaries, or the ward boundaries which take it up to Hamilton City ??? How about some direction
