John Freer Mayoral candidate and Goldfield’s shopping mall manager was assaulted at Goldfields Mall late yesterday afternoon. He has suffered bruising and cuts to his face as the result of an unprovoked attack by several youths that according to John Freer were aged between 14 and 16.
The attack happened after he had spoken to one person about skateboarding in the mall which is not permitted for obvious health and safety reasons.
On returning to his office, he was hit from behind three times and then on the face before he was able to restrain the assailant.
John Freer told CFM that it’s a sad reflection on society that young people will resort to such violence so quickly. He said he will never be the same again and it has strengthened his resolve to work harder with community groups to tackle the underlying issues that lead to these types of assaults. He wants to make the community a safer place.
Police attended and have told CFM that they are investigating the incident.

Hi create a skate park for the youth – give them projects around the community to be valued members of society – I am so sadden to hear about this attack – youth are our future leaders and all organisations need to be fostering youth to be part of society
I propose a Berm Busters Group – employment for 14 – 24 year olds
Turning ugly berms that have noxious weeds and introduce species and planting them out in natives endemic to the region. Manuka and Kanuka and hebes to create habitats for our birds, bees and butterflies

There’s a bloody skate park no more than 50m from where this assault took place. Sorry no excuse for a wanna be thug that throws a coward punch from behind .
