New bins, new trucks and new hi-viz jackets for the staff – this today as new age of rubbish, waste and recycling was launched across the Coromandel Peninsula, Hauraki Plains and Matamata Piako districts.
The new system incorporates four bins collecting food waste, general rubbish, recycling and glass.
Whiritoa, Whangamata South and parts of Waihi were the first to sample the new service being provided by Waste Management under contract to the various councils.
No official word yet but on the street it appeared as though there was a lottery approach from residents.
If in doubt put them all out appeared to be the case in both Whiritoa and Whangamata with which bins were at the front gate. And this included some of the old now redundant plastic bags. The new food waste collection did appear to be being well supported.
Waste Management has replaced Smart Environmental which held the contract for the past 10 years.
