Serious Fix Required for State Highway 25A

Waka Kotahi realises that it may have a serious fix on its hands to overcome the cracks near the State Highway 25A summit.
As the roading agency closed the Kopu-Hikuai Road until further notice and taking out the main east-west connection on the Coromandel Peninsula, spokesman Liam Ryan said there was still considerable assessment required before settling on a resolution.
He did concede that their engineers were dealing with a significant issue.
Excessive rainwater, streams and springs have all played their part to make the road unstable and therefore dangerous to drive on.
Liam said scenarios were being considered but in the short term, it was the safety of drivers which was top of mind.
Potential reopening of the road would be made after the long weekend.
