Voters Urged to Complete and Return Ballot Papers
Written by John Freer on October 1, 2025
Getting local government voting papers into letterboxes or back into council offices is the plea this week, as of yesterday only 20 percent of residents and ratepayers having had their say.
Former chairman of the Coromandel Peninsula Residents and Ratepayers Alliance, Richard Shelford-Woodcock, is one who has taken up the campaign encouraging people to have their say. He is also standing for the Mercury Bay Community Board.
The alliance was formed to provide a collective voice for the residents and ratepayers groups across the district.
Richard said that residents and ratepayers now needed to validate the work undertaken by their associations by ensuring they cast a vote.
Of the 20.5 percent who have voted, highest return so far is Tairua/Pauanui where 28 percent have voted, Thames has 21 percent of those eligible having return ballot papers, while Whangamata was only at only 17 percent.
Coromandel/Colville is at nearly 21 percent, Mercury Bay 18.6 percent.
Postal voting closes on Tuesday October 7, ballot papers after this have to be dropped at council offices before midday on Saturday, October 11.
