It is a story which will continue to be retold – how a solo-fisherman was flicked off his launch by a marlin, then spent 23 ½ hours in the sea off Coromandel Peninsula’s east coast, before being rescued by three guys out for a troll.
Will Fransen keeps the love of his life, the 12-metre BettyG, moored in Tairua Harbour. On January 2 he was out trolling for gamefish when he landed a marlin.
In the hope of supporting two charities, Will recently told his story for the first time at the Tairua Pauanui Sport Fishing Club. CFM has exerts from the presentation which was attended by more than 100 people including his rescuers.
