Bridge and Highway Work Updates
Written by John Freer on May 26, 2026
As work continues on renewing Tairua’s Pepe Bridge on State Highway 25, Coromandel’s CFM and the New Zealand Transport Agency will provide regular updates and milestones.
If there is any other major works underway we will include these also.
This week with Pepe Bridge, the temporary pedestrian bridge is now in place – and NZTA Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience over the past two weeks of night works and closures. Services from the current pedestrian bridge are now being transferred over including sewerage, water and fibre.
Full construction is set to get underway in mid-July when the current pedestrian bridge is demolished, which makes way for the first of the two new lanes to be built. Traffic is expected to be on that new lane by the end of this year.
Once the new lane is finished, Fulton Hogan can demolish the 83-year-old bridge and build the second new lane. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
At Pumpkin Hill four of the eight repair sites are now complete north of Tairua. This work is being done using lane closures and stop/go, with the length of the site being progressively reduced.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of this month/early June. There is one additional site to be repaired of which will finish mid-June.
