Delay to power being restored after storm

Bad weather is currently hampering reconnection efforts in the eastern parts of Powerco’s electricity network.
Customers in the Manawaru area, south of Te Aroha have been without power since 7:15am Monday morning after lines came down in high winds. The strong winds made it unsafe for field crews to scale ladders and carry out repairs yesterday. With conditions settling over Tuesday, field crews are planning to return to site and re-start reconnection work.
Further north in the Hikuai area, a tree brought down lines on Tangiteroria Lane causing an outage for 311 customers at 7pm last night. Unfortunately with roads closed due to flooding, field crews are currently unable to access the area to carry out repairs.
Head of Network Operations Caz Haydon thanks customers for their patience.
“We know it’s disappointing and inconvenient to be without power, particularly overnight, so we’d like to thank affected customers for their patience,” she says.
“The safety of our field crews is a top priority, so we’re carrying out reconnection work as quickly and as safely as we can where there’s access and where it’s safe to do so.”
