Councillors Want Tairua Harbour Sand Issues Resolved – Meeting Planned
Written by John Freer on April 8, 2025
Sorting out the on-going issue of not enough water under boats using Tairua Harbour has the support of both a local district councillor and a regional councillor.
It is a good start with Cr Terry Walker saying that several parties had to work together to resolve the problem. The local Tairua Pauanui Coastguard has been making regular social media posts warning of the shifting sands and shifting channels.
For Cr Walker the situation is a potential disaster waiting to happen.
He described safety as being paramount, he has the support of Waikato Regional Councillor Warren Maher, a meeting is planned later this month involving residents and ratepayer representatives from both Tairua and Pauanui, the local community board, coastguard and council staff.
