PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AT ONEMANA

Details on this breaking news story are still being clarified and further detail will provided as it comes to hand. What we know so far is a plane on a commercial flight from Tauranga travelling to Great Barrier Island yesterday with a pilot and two passengers onboard made an emergency landing at Onemana after an engine fault developed. The plane landed safely and remains where it came to a stop.

According to a local resident, the pilot originally was planning to land on the beach but diverted to a nearby firebreak when people were seen in the area he was planning to use on the beach for the landing.

The alternate landing area selected is a rough fire break and the plane remains at the site and will be challenging to relocate. No one was injured during the emergency landing.

The plane is owned by Sunair Aviation Limited in Tauranga but a call to their Tauranga office received a denial that the plane was on a Sunair flight at the time. Messages have been left with the CEO of SunAir but we have not been able to talk to them so far for comment.

More on this story when it comes to hand.
