The decision to terminate the Create the Vibe pedestrian precinct in Thames has met mixed reaction – this being the situation experienced by Thames Community Board members even just before voting on the matter.
The board deliberated for an hour, which included hearing seven submissions on the $336,000 Waka Kotahi funded initiative, before unanimously agreeing to rip the precinct out.
Board Chairman Adrian Catran said he believed the project failed because it was located in the wrong place.
Council staff will now move to dismantle the Create the Vibe, no time frame has been placed on this, Mary Street will reopen to traffic.
