Are Thames Motorists Being Ripped Off at the Pumps?

Are Thames residents being ripped off at the pumps?
That is the question CFM is asking as a result of the significant differences in fuel pricing across the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki regions.
Based on yesterday’s prices fuel was 37 cents a litre cheaper in Ngatea than 25 kilometres away in Thames, which highlights the inflated pricing motorists face in the town.
A further comparison being the likes of Gull Thames charging $2.96.9 cents a litre for 91, the same company across at Tairua was charging 29 cents a litre less.
Fuel prices in Thames have for many years been significantly higher than other towns, both across the country and the local district.
When checking pricing yesterday three Thames outlets had 91 at $2.99.9 cents a litre. Meanwhile in Whangamata 91 was $2.64.9, Whitianga $2.69.7 cents a litre, Paeroa $2.70.7 and Waihi at $2.79.7. Even Coromandel is less expensive than Thames at $2.87.9.
CFM is launching a petition to the Commerce Commission calling for an investigation into the Thames pricing – in the meantime we want your feedback on Thames fuel prices – you can email [email protected], provide your comments on the CFM Facebook page of even call us on 0800 CFMCORO.
We look forward to your feedback.

it’s absolutely discussing that fuel prices are so expensive in Thames, especially when more remote places are cheaper.
if one fuelco. lowered their price then the others would have to follow. come on Mobil! you’re the first into Thames.

I fully support this petition of the outrageous cost at the petrol pumps in Thames. For years we have paid significantly more than other areas of NZ including Auckland. Can you please explain to the Thames community how this is possible and how have they been able to get away with doing this for years. We have had enough of high petrol prices.

prices are a ridiculous rip off. Tairua and Whitianga are way cheaper. yet so much further away. no reason other than greed, for Thames to have such rip off prices.

Thames motorists are most definitely being ripped off and the Thames petrol stations seem to be in sync with the higher prices being charged. There is no reason for them to charge the prices they do when, in surrounding areas, petrol stations can charge and do charge, much less.

Thames have been ripping us off for years.
I avoid their pumps like the plague.

I never buy petrol in Thames unless I absolutely have to and even then it’s only to put enough in to get to Ngatea or Paeroa. It is so unfair that the people who live here have to pay so much more, many who simply can’t drive out of Thames due to being elderly. Thanks CFM for doing this petition to the commerce commission.

Very rarely full up in Thames either go to Ngatea or Tapu.

Thames petrol is a rip off, I go to visit in Papakura, use the pac n save petrol voucher and have been getting as much as 50cents off the Thames price.

The four stations in Thames and Kopu are illegally working together to control the fuel prices. There is no competition and the excessive prices being charged by them is proof.

Do the fuel companies in Thames think because we have the highest number of retired so called wealthy baby boomers living here they can rip them off ?

I fill up in Whitianga before going to Thames to avoid filling up there. When I lived in Thames 20 years ago, this high pricing fuel in Thames was happening then. I use to drive to Z shop in Paeroa to fill up. It’s outrageous.
